The Wine Tasting Special, together with our weekly operations, special charters and annual Train of Lights, provide the income we need to keep our western heritage railroad museum alive. We have openings for more volunteers, so please join us! Explore the secrets of wine and food pairings on a historic train on four Saturdays in August -- 6, 13, 20 & 27.
Livermore Valley wine history will blend with Niles Canyon Railway history in the Wine Tasting Specials. These two-hour train rides leave Niles at 3:30 PM sharp. The tickets are $37.50/person (21 and over, please). On the Wine Tasting Special you will learn more about the Livermore Valley wine region and the history and style of many great wineries in Livermore Valley. At the same time, you will also learn about the history of the rail line traveling along the original route of the transcontinental railway where trains first rolled through Niles Canyon in 1869. Wine Educator Steve Ferree will walk you through tasting a flight of Livermore wines. There will be different wines each weekend. Each wine will be paired with an hors d'oeuvre selected especially for that wine. A Certified Wine Professional with the Society of Wine Educators; Ferree has earned certificates in wine from the Culinary Institute of America and the Wine & Spirits Education Trust. He writes about wine for the on-line newspaper Examiner.com and in his wine blog at WineProGuy.com. For more information, call 510.910.7024 or go to www.ncry.org. Download the News Release. (PDF) |
