Commissary

Our Commissary Department is responsible for helping to host a variety of events and special trains like our Wine and Beer trains along with preparing and serving/selling food and drinks during some of those events both on and off of our trains and for both our visitors and volunteers. Like to cook? Like to host events? Like to work with people? The Commissary Department is for you.

Some of the events & efforts Commissary contributes to throughout the year include:

  • Selling snacks, drinks and hot dogs in our concession car during our regularly scheduled train rides throughout the year.
  • Working as car hosts and servers on special trains like our wine, tea, and beer specials.
  • Preparing and selling hot chocolate and other packaged snacks during our Train of Lights. Other Commissary volunteers act as car hosts on our two First Class during during the TOL as well making sure our passengers are served their complimentary drinks and snacks.
  • Prepare and serve food for meals offered during special events and special train rides like our Photographer’s specials and more. These meals can be both on and picnic style off of the train.
  • Prepare at home and deliver hot meals for our Train of Lights crew so they can have a meal on board while the train relocates from Niles to Sunol. Since they start their volunteer day mid-afternoon and do not end, until later in the evening, this insures everyone gets a good dinner to keep them happy during while they volunteer.
  • Prepare and serve food during some of our volunteer events like our annual 4th of July picnic held in the Sunol Glen Park for all volunteers, families and friends.
  • Serve lunches to our volunteers during our Saturday work sessions to give them a great break from all of their hard work.
  • And more…

Interested? Like so many of our volunteer opportunities, no special skills are needed, and we will provide training where necessary.
